On the construction sites at Raising Center, we can always see the following scene: A huge excavator is stuck in the mud and unable to move. Suddenly, a worker would put his palms together, and start to recite, "Supreme Master Ching Hai, then the excavator would miraculously crawl its way out and resume its operation. At another construction site for the hospital, a huge piece of concrete with decorative carving was to be placed on top of the roof a few meters above the ground. In order to have the work proceed smoothly, all the workers would recite, "Supreme Master Ching Hai in unison, and when the concrete piece was successfully put into place by manual labor, they all would joyfully cheer.

The workers at Raising Center all like Master very much. When we first went to the elementary school construction site to gather news material, they all asked for Master's photo. When they received the photo, they jumped up and down like happy children. They said that they wanted to have Master's photo very much, because by wearing Her photo more of their fellow countrymen would come to know about Master. It would also remind them to speak and behave properly, not to act against their own conscience.

One worker said that he had been well taken care of. Other than the three meals, the doctor is always ready to help in case of illness or accidents. He would also receive Master's blessed food frequently, which is not available elsewhere.

They also said that the life here is very simple. They work in the day, and rest near the construction site at night. They very much enjoy Master's News magazines, because Master's teachings are easy to understand, and can be used in daily life, which makes them feel that it is possible to improve themselves. A worker even said, "The scripture indicated that a Buddha would come to save sentient beings after two thousand years, and he feels that Master must be that Buddha.

Even though some people do not know how to read, but they still like Master a great deal. There was a fifteen years old girl who really wanted to have Master's sample booklet. She was extremely happy after receiving it. During the lunch hour, she fell asleep hugging the booklet. For her, it was not important to read the words in the booklet, because she had already communicated with the Master from within.

A worker, Chan-Kirivone, who was responsible for carving the concrete piece, had already been working for three weeks. Before he came, he had already seen in the newspapers how Master has been helping the Cambodian people. After he came to the construction site, he read Master's sample booklet and talked to some fellow practitioners; he then began to appreciate Master's teachings. He also loves Master's noble ideal of selfless service to people. He had already studied the scriptures, worshiped the Buddha, and practiced meditation since he was young. He said that meditation gives him inspiration, and Buddha would always guide him so that his carvings would be closer to perfection. The workers have had many experiences that they wanted to share with us; but because of the language barrier, they were unable to speak freely. However, we could still sense their joy.

Many of the workers had noticed their own improvement. Some have quit smoking, while others are cutting down on the same habit. A worker also said that even though all the meals here were vegetarian, he did not want to go out to buy meat because he did not want to incur more karma.

Goodness is inherent in everyone. When the simple and innocent Cambodian workers had the opportunity to learn about the Truth, they all wanted to better themselves. We believed that their desire will lead more souls together back to the Pure Land of the Buddha.
