[Hsihu]
The 99' "Delivering Loving Warmth in Winter," activities
held in Hsihu County were sponsored by the Supreme Master Ching Hai
International Association and assisted by the Hsihu County Medical
Clinic, Sanitation-Promotion Committee, Security of Hsihu County,
and local village governments.
The
activities consisted of two parts. The first, free medical check-ups
and treatment were rendered by doctors that were fellow-initiates
specializing in traditional Chinese or Western medicine. They came
from major hospitals located throughout the Province. The second part
included loving visits to disadvantaged elderly and low-income families
in the various villages. The visitors included fellow initiates, staff
from the village government, and members of the Security Committee
of Hsihu County.
On
that day, even before the preparation stage was completed, villagers
began to come in to register for check-ups and treatment. After they
were finished, some returned home to tell their family and friends
about the activities, who, in turn, stopped their farm work and rushed
to the venue to take advantage of this rare opportunity. Their big
hurry even caused temporary increases in heart rate and a rise in
blood pressure, adding more fun to the event.
Free
topical presentations were given along with the treatments. The professional
lectures on health maintenance given by the doctors were welcomed
warmly by the villagers and a pleasant and harmonious atmosphere pervaded
the venue.
As
the free check-ups were being conducted, another activity was occurring
simultaneously. Guided by village government staff workers, fellow
initiates visited thirty-seven low-income families and twenty-three
disadvantaged elderly persons, giving each one a special Spring Festival
present of NT$1,000 and some articles with which to combat the winter
cold. During the visits, when initiates discovered that senior citizens
or family members needed treatment, they transported them to and from
the free check-up and treatment area. The needs of everyone were assessed
and conscientiously met.
