In addition to visiting poor households
in our regular assistance program, we recently called at the home of
an elementary school student, bringing with us the Supreme Master Ching
Hai News magazines and some relief cash. The boy's parents were alcoholics
and did not have a steady income. It was thus not unusual for the boy
to miss a meal. We explained the reason for our visit and promised his
mother a cash subsidy every ten days as well as a monthly allowance
for the boy. We also expressed our readiness to purchase any daily necessities
they required. The mother was profoundly grateful, but we promptly explained
that we were acting in accordance with Master's teachings: rich or poor,
noble or low, all people are God's children. Therefore, when someone
is in need, we should do our best to help him. We pray that they will
soon overcome their mental and material ordeals.
