According to the Christian Bible, God is "the Word." In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. That's what we call the "Sound," the vibration, the Tao, the Buddha Nature in Buddhist terminology, or the Sound Current in Hindu terminology. Once we get in touch with that so-called "Word," we're in touch with God because the Word is God. God isn't a figure with a long beard or a stick, standing there telling you what to do. God is a power, a loving current that we can use to mold our life and to make things come into being by this creative substance.

This Word or divine vibration is mentioned in all religions. We call it the Sound, others call it the celestial music, the Logos, the Tao, etc. It vibrates within all life and sustains the whole universe. This inner melody can heal all wounds, fulfill all desires and quench all worldly thirst. It is all-powerful and all-loving.

The Bible says, "Seek you first the Kingdom of God and all other things shall be added unto you." This I have found be the truth. It is the whole truth. And in the Buddhist sutras, for example, in the Surangama Sutra, it also says, "Once you get in touch with this inner Buddha Nature through practicing the Quan Yin Method, worldly things will go on smoothly, too. We can also have other things." And this I have also found to be the truth. Therefore, even the Bible says similar things. You can find many other examples in the Indian scriptures, Jewish scriptures and other scriptures. That's why we hear that rich people are blessed by God. It might be true in some sense, but the richness of this world hasn't always been a symbol of the blessing of God. It just denotes our virtuous way of life in the last period of our existence, before this existence, and that's all. The blessing of God comes directly, without virtues even, once we're connected with this God power.

Q. Did the Quan Yin Method also exist in ancient times?

M. The Sixth Patriarch Hui Neng passed down the Quan Yin Method to ten disciples. However, the lineage of the method was discontinued later; because the most enlightened disciple had gone to another country and developed there, and this country heard no more about this lineage.

Sometimes political reasons, economic reasons or the collective karma of the people of a country does not allow a Master's teachings to be continued there. So it will be developed in another place.

This time is urgent, besides so many disasters, so many wars, so much suffering in this world, you can't wait to select just one or two disciples. It's the order from Heaven that we spread it quickly and openly. It's the mercy of Heaven, and of the Buddhas also.
We've accumulated too much negative karma through the killing of animals en masse, and through many destructive weapons.
