Spiritual Legends from
the Himalayas--

The Origin of the Ganges

Undergraduate fellow initiates in northern Formosa hold their first Truth-sharing seminars on campus.

[Taipei] In mid May 2001, after participating in university campus fairs to disseminate Master's teachings in April, undergraduate fellow initiates from northern Formosa assisted the National Taiwan University (NTU) Light and Sound Society and the National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) Body and Soul Development and Research Society-campus groups established by fellow practitioners-in conducting a spiritual seminar series. A Quan Yin messenger who had traveled to India on Truth-sharing missions was the principal speaker, and he spoke on "Spiritual Legends from the Himalayas-the Origin of the Ganges". This was the first attempt by undergraduate fellow practitioners to conduct Truth-sharing activities in the form of seminars, and the first time that NTNU fellow initiates shared Master's teachings on campus.

To advertise the event, the initiates worked in groups to put up posters on campus throughout the night, and disseminate pamphlets. They also gathered their courage to take turns performing a talk-and-sing show through a loudspeaker at heavily crowded intersections. This form of promotion proved extremely effective, as pedestrians waiting for traffic lights smiled and listened curiously. Many people who did not receive pamphlets doubled back to get one. Thus, over a thousand pamphlets were quickly distributed each day.

The seminars at both NTU and NTNU were fully packed and many guests had to watch the live broadcast on TV screens outside the venue. At the seminar, the Quan Yin messenger briefly introduced the various religious sects of India in a lively and humorous manner. He discussed India's fantastic Kumbha Mela congregation (a sacred Hindu pilgrimage occurring every three years) and shared a few anecdotes about astral travel, as well as insights gained from his spiritual practice. Later, we showed a videotape of Master telling interesting stories about Her pilgrimage to the Himalayas. The audience immediately burst into laughter at Her great humor, which warmed up the atmosphere further.

The seminar attendees came from all walks of life. They included teachers, students, spiritual practitioners from many sects, working people, and housewives. Some seriously and attentively read their handouts, while others diligently took notes; some raised their hands many times to participate earnestly in the post-video discussion, and many promptly requested to learn the Convenient Method after the seminar. With Master's grace, this series of Truth-sharing activities was accomplished successfully. Fellow practitioners are anticipating similar events in the future, so that they may form good affinities with more people.
