Reflections On Spiritual Practice

Sometimes when we are ill, or have disasters and frustrations, we think God is unfair, and we feel mistreated, wronged or hurt, not knowing to whom to reveal our heart. The laws of the universe, including that of causality, have always been true and impartial. Nothing escapes the net of justice. We feel things are unfair because we are forgetful and cannot look very far back or ahead. Strict and monotonous as they might seem, these laws repeatedly remind us of the ephemerality of this world by means of birth, aging, illness and death; they make us aware that we have often violated the rules with many of our ignoble thoughts and actions.

The world is a huge arena, in which we have to abide by the rules whether we join its game voluntarily or not. If we don't, we will always lose and attempt to take revenge, and there will never be an end to this game. We have to obey the rules (precepts) and follow a certain path (an enlightening method) under the guidance and protection of a Master, to get out of this labyrinth and discover a whole new world beyond.
