I
recall when I was initiated ten years ago (February 1988), among the
several hundred new initiates in the group, only a few had no inner
experience. I was one of them. Later, we were summoned to the front
to be individually blessed by Master. Finally everyone had some experience,
except me. Master told me, "You are too tired. Come again tomorrow!"
However, I did not go the next day. Now that I think back, I must
say I was really ignorant! Busy studying for a doctorate and heavy
research work left me little time for meditation. However, compassionate
Master did not forget this pitiful disciple; each time She saw me
at the group meditation, She would talk to me briefly and bless me
indiscernibly. Thanks to Her blessing and my daily meditation, I quickly
overcame problems in my research and finally earned my doctorate in
two and a half years, whereupon I successfully found a job.
As I carried on
with my spiritual practice, my daily life passed smoothly. However,
I had few inner experiences, which only graced me about once every
two years. Seven years after my initiation, I attended a retreat.
When I went to sleep one night, suddenly I saw lights of intense brilliance
bursting forth from my wisdom eye, followed by a starry sky, colorful
fireworks, resplendent trees and glorious flowers. These scenes appeared
before my eyes one after another precisely as they were described
in the scriptures. These visions that continued throughout the night
filled me with ecstasy.
My lack of inner
experience in the past seven years was compensated for in one night.
Master always makes the best arrangements. Had I been allowed to enjoy
wonderful inner experiences after I was initiated, I might have become
so intoxicated in the bliss of samadhi that I would not have been
able to complete my studies successfully. Looking back now, though
my inner experience came later, I know it was the best arrangement
for me.
