Cover Story of How2USA Magazine
April 2008 Vol.
9 Issue 4
In the April Golden Year 5 (2008) edition of How2USA, the US-based publishing company Smart Business Services (SBS), Inc., features a cover story that introduces Supreme Master Ching Hai to its nationwide readership. The magazine, which reaches nearly all of the country’s Chinese American community, invited Supreme Master Ching Hai to be a featured guest and Master graciously accepted a phone interview with SBS in January. Afterwards, She lovingly stayed up in the night to write more information for the magazine and later sent gifts to the SBS staff, wishing them an auspicious Lunar New Year. The article, originally in Chinese, is titled “A Compassionate Angel on Earth Who Opens up the Spiritual Light of Humankind with Love and Kindness: An Interview with Supreme Master Ching Hai, the World- Renowned Philanthropist, Artist and Spiritual Master.” It presents a broad view of Supreme Master Ching Hai’s worldwide humanitarian work and Her profound spiritual teachings on attaining enlightenment, noting their similarity with the words of the ancient Master Quetzalcoatl. The article continues in describing Supreme Master Ching Hai’s endeavors toward a universal “cause for peace” through extending compassion to all those around us. The following is an excerpt from the magazine: “The world was originally in peace. Like animals and birds, we humans also possessed the ability to communicate spiritually and sometimes did not need to use language. But the world is too busy. Its pressures are too great. In order to survive, we gradually lost that invaluable ability of ours. Under such circumstances, humans gradually sank into a lower level of consciousness. How to help people who long for peace recover peace? Supreme Master Ching Hai chooses the approach of compassion. Be kind to animals and birds. Protect our environment. This is the compassionate approach of the Master. She personally wrote The Dogs in My Life, The Birds in My Life and The Noble Wilds. Published recently, these three books are the fruit of Master’s heartfelt efforts and an easy shortcut to access Her interpretation of love and kindness. As Master said in the new book release conference for The Dogs in My Life, God, Buddha Nature and love all reside in everyone’s inner Self. Master believes that only when we are able to love the defenseless animals can we extend our love to other beings. Animals can help people develop their inner love. Love can change the atmosphere in a family, transforming it into happiness and thus influencing the world. Then the whole world will become brighter and better. “Master thus suggests that we treat animals with respect and love, just as we would like to be treated. Help animals where they need help and care for them whenever possible. And the best way we can help them is to refrain from doing anything that injures them or shortens their lives. This means to abstain from eating meat, fish, birds or any other animals. “On environment issues, Master advises human beings to act in support of protecting the environment and to go green to save our beautiful planet Earth. In order to reverse the negative and downward-sliding trend, and to uplift humans to the realm of safety, in addition to relying on technology or science, the most important thing is to rely on the power of virtue and compassion. It is perhaps that only by doing so can we recover the peace we have lost.” To the overseas Chinese in the USA, Supreme Master Ching Hai offered Her sincere and cordial advice: “Integrate but preserve your national culture and good traditions, such as filial piety, honesty, generosity, gentleness and hospitality. Most of all, remember God. Do good deeds and be happy so that when we leave the Earth, there will be good, beneficial things to remember.” In reference to the Olympic Games, Master said She is happy for China and is also proud of the progress the Chinese have made. She wholeheartedly wishes that the Olympics, which belong to both the Chinese and the world, will be a fun-filled and successful event. “Bring peace among the nations and understanding and friendship among people of difference races. It’s a laudable event.” Following the interview, the staff at the magazine publishing headquarters sent the following message: “It is our merit through this magazine publishing company, to have the opportunity to be in touch with the compassionate Master who has contributed so much to the world. Under Your loving care, we will work even harder! We wish Master great health and happiness. We also wish all of Master’s editorial staff in Taiwan (Formosa) abundant harmony, health and happiness.” We would like to thank publisher Smart Business Services and How2USA magazine for this thoughtfully written story. May Heaven bless all journalists in their noble profession of spreading beneficial news and inspiration throughout every community.
