I
was still single when I was 28. My parents were concerned and arranged
for me to meet many men. But each time, their matchmaking efforts
failed. Either the other party found some fault with me or I with
him. One day, a friend enthusiastically introduced me to a fortune-teller
to find out who the man of my life would be. After studying my facial
features and analyzing the date and time of my birth, the fortune-teller
prophesied, "You will marry a foreigner when you are 32. Your
husband will make lots of money and you will be the one who does
the bookkeeping. Money will come to your doorstep all by itself."
However, I remained skeptical about his prophecy.
When
I was 32, Master visited the Tainan Workers' Vacation Center to
deliver a lecture. Later that year I was initiated and started preparations
to become a nun. Master was on a self-retreat at Ilan Center, and
I was working and living with the monastic group there. One day
Master assembled us for tea. I was sitting in the back. "That
sister, what did you do before you came here?" She asked. "I
used to run a beauty salon, Master," I replied. "Who did
the accounts for you?" Master asked again. "I did them
myself," I answered. "Okay, then you will be the accountant
for the monastic group." And that was what I have been since
that day. I didn't like accounting and thought that I could get
around it. Man proposes, God disposes. But Master knew my thoughts
and didn't let that happen. It is true that fixed karma cannot be
changed. The more we are afraid of something, the more likely we
will encounter it.
Master
is good at everything. With Her all-around talents, She has made
handicrafts and painted. She has taught us how to earn our own living
so that people would come to us to buy the things we made. We have
therefore never been financially in need. We are able to not only
support our monastic group, but also make regular donations and
provide occasional disaster relief and aid to others. Since Master
comes from Au Lac, this has confirmed the fortune-teller's prophecy
about my marrying a "foreign husband."
