Spiritual Interludes

By Fellow Sister Ling, Taipei, Formosa

I am going to tell you about a miraculous incident that occurred in my life, and you may laugh at me because it may not seem like a miracle to you. However, this wonderful and enjoyable episode enlivened my life for quite a while. I miss my days in Cambodia with Master; I miss its sky and the great land. When I was there, I joined the agriculture group in order to temper myself. For the first time in my life I picked up a hoe, and for the first time I was fascinated by the fantastic power with which the great Earth yields and sustains everything. It was also the first time that I saw with my own eyes the meaning of the phrase, "one pit for one radish"! (Please do not laugh!) When it was time to harvest, I truly shouted with joy when I pulled my first radish from the soil, and felt the infinite power of nature and the universe!

I was very happy that I had seized this chance of a lifetime. Every night before I turned in, I could enjoy the bedtime stories told by Master; and I lived each day merrily and blissfully. During that time, the burden that had laid heavily on my shoulders for years vanished. In the sky above the vegetable garden, I saw a vision of misty palaces that were huge and majestic. Though the vision lasted less than a second, it left an indelible impression on my mind, and would reappear whenever I felt discouraged. However, I learned my best lesson from the radish; it was a lesson for my mind that allows me to realize the importance of putting theories into action.

We might be perfectly fluent and eloquent in writing and speech, but the most important things in life are putting words into
"action," training our minds, controlling our bodies, taking good care of everything around us, start from ourselves and set a good example for society!
