The Art of Tranquillity

One day during the early years
of the Au Lac War, an American
platoon was fiercely battling
against the Viet Cong in a rice
paddy. Suddenly, a row of six
monks walked right across the
battle field in a smooth and
calm manner. An American soldier
named David Busch recalled the
incident, " This group of monks
walked straight ahead without
paying the slightest attention
to the surrounding. The strange
thing was, nobody shot at them.
After they walked across, I
suddenly had no desire to fight
anymore, at least not on that
day. Other people must have been
feeling the same, because they
stopped fighting simultaneously.
So, we had a day of cease fire.
"
The tranquillity and composure
of the monks extinguished the
fierce battle between the two
sides.
