Allah Sends Timely Comfort to Sudan’s Needy
By the Africa Relief Team (Originally in English)

January Flood Relief

In July 2010 days of torrential rains brought major flooding to Sudan’s Red Sea state, where villages near Tokar, 150 kilometers from Port Sudan, bore the brunt of the disaster. Police Chief Ali Sukar of Agige District said that although state services were rendering aid and searching for the missing, additional help would be appreciated.

Upon hearing of the situation, Supreme Master Ching Hai conveyed Her sincere sympathies and prayers, and provided US$8,000 in relief funds. On January 24, 2011, a group of our Association members from Formosa went with Mr. Ali Sukar to the affected area and delivered enough bags of sorghum to feed 12,000 people. Both the recipients and the government officials of Port Sudan expressed their thanks to Allah and Master for the much-needed supplies.

April Flood Relief

On March 17, 2011, another flood destroyed approximately 38 houses in the city of Tokar and damaged crops in nearby villages. With an additional US$8,000 contribution from Master, our Formosan Association members travelled to the affected area on April 5 along with Sudan’s Humanitarian Aid Commission and delivered enough sorghum for 13,000 people. Local village heads and government officials thanked Master for the timely aid, saying that it was the first assistance they had received from a foreign team that year.

For both relief efforts, the team members paid approximately US$10,054 from their own funds for travel expenses, and for the transport of the food. We pray for the stability of the Sudanese people and that such devastating conditions will be minimized as humanity’s increasing compassion helps to restore our planet’s ecological balance.
