The 13th SOS Global Warming Seminar
By Gunma News Group (Originally in Japanese)

[Gunma] Following a successful global warming seminar in November last year held at the Hadano Culture Center in Hadano, Kanagawa Prefecture, our Gunma Association members organized another on February 13, Golden Year 8 (2011), at the Kyoto Cultural Center. Kyoto is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Japan and a world-class city of environmental protection since the historical 1997 COP3 Conference.

Despite record-breaking snowstorms, a huge crowd turned up at the seminar. The guests were first shown a video on global warming and were then addressed by three speakers who exposed the cruelty involved in animal industry and explained how keeping a meat-free diet can solve the current global climate change crisis. Their compassionate appeal moved many in attendance to tears. One of them said, “What I took for granted was wrong. I need to re-examine my diet now.” Another commented, “I learned about things that haven’t been reported by the media, and I benefited a lot.” A company director indicated that he will act as a spokesman regarding this climate change issue and will pass on the information to others. A 75-year-old scientist showed great enthusiasm in learning vegan cooking. In addition, the delicious vegan lunch served after the event was truly appreciated by all. At the end, one of the guests invited our Association members to give a lecture in his city and offered to help.

Gunma Association members were greatly encouraged by the positive feedback from the seminars and are determined to organize more in the future to spread the SOS message as much as possible.
