Ordinance in the Works to Curb Global Warming
By Gunma News Group (Originally in Japanese)

[Gunma] The autumn foliage season has arrived two weeks late due to warmer climate, said the Japan Meteorological Agency. Meanwhile, Japan’s Ministry of the Environment reported that the country’s carbon dioxide emissions hit a record high in 2008.

In response, on October 19, Golden Year 5 (2008), a public hearing on a municipal ordinance for stopping climate change was held in Gunma Prefecture. Most speakers advocated recycling and car emissions standards, while a local initiate and mother of a 16-month old baby, made an appeal for the consumption of more vegetables and less meat, which she said, would spur the growth of the agricultural sector. Her comments were supported with scientific evidence and attracted the attention of the Environment Policy Department.

A local initiate sitting in the audience suggested that the public should be given adequate information about the positive impact of the veg diet to help them make the right decision regarding the ordinance. The proposals met with the approval of Gunma University Professor Nishizono, head of the committee studying the feasibility of the ordinance.

The Gunma Center plans to suggest one meat-free school lunch per week as part of food and environmental education for students.

Another public hearing was conducted at the Ota Prefectural Government Branch Office Complex on October 25. A sister initiate cited rising temperatures as a reason for the appearance of new insect species around her summer resort in the mountains. As a mother of two young boys, she spoke of how she encouraged her family to adopt a veg diet and how important it is for people to realize the detrimental effects of meat-eating on the environment.

Blessed with Master’s loving guidance, fellow initiates are thankful for the opportunity to shape a municipal ordinance that will serve the future of humanity.

Global Warming Seminar
Generates Positive Ripple Effects

On November 15, fellow initiates from Gunma Prefecture held an SOS Global Warming Seminar at the Prefecture Government Office in Maebashi City. Videos were shown introducing ways to mitigate global warming, followed by speeches delivered by two guests from a vegetarian business and a counsellor from the Japan Vegetarian Society.

Members of the audience supported the concept that the meat diet is related to global warming, but they had some reservation about switching to a vegetarian diet. The speakers gave appropriate answers to each question, while the fellow initiates shared their personal experiences. Some of the guests promised to try their best to change their diet. One of them shared the "Be Veg, Go Green, Save the Planet" message with his boss and colleagues and received a positive response as many people promised to advise their friends to eat less meat.

A Message of Compassion
at Kyoto Vegetarian Festival

By Osaka News Group (Originally in Japanese)

[Osaka] On October 5, fellow initiates of the Osaka Center joyfully participated in the Kyoto Vegetarian Festival. Posters and banners carrying Master’s message of a vegetarian lifestyle elicited interest among the visitors. People read the Supreme Master Television brochures and were touched by its constructive programming and Master’s precious teachings. They also marveled at the flavor of the vegetarian spring rolls and egg rolls served at the booth. Both fellow initiates and guests felt blessed by Master’s shining light of compassion as they watched the teachings of the living Master on DVD throughout the day.

Promoting the Beneficial Diet
at the Tokyo Vegetarian Festival

By Tokyo News Group (Originally in Japanese)

[Tokyo] The 2008 Tokyo Vegetarian Festival was held at Yoyogi Park on October 18 and 19, Golden Year 5 (2008), under the theme “Be friendly to the Earth’s environment as well as human beings and animals.” Compared to last year, the event attracted more visitors of different nationalities and age groups. Our Tokyo Center, represented by Loving Hut, participated in the event and delighted visitors with vegan hamburgers, tri-color baked rice, buns and many other delectable delicacies. We also distributed the Loving Hut and SOS flyers.

Blessed by Master’s love, fellow initiates worked through the night preparing buns that were unusually big and more delicious and fresh, attracting a long queue for many hours. Some people said that they came back to purchase more because the food was truly delicious.

We are very happy that, through this activity, we have been able to convey the significance and meaning of the vegan diet to more people while also giving a greater impetus to the future development of Loving Hut.
