Launching a Global Warming
Public Awareness Campaign
By Hong Kong News Group (Originally in English)

[Hong Kong] From February 9 to 17, Golden Year 5 (2008), over 2,000 emails containing SOS Global Warming flyers in both English and Chinese were sent to government bureaus, newspapers, magazines, television and radio stations, universities, organizations and businesses. The following encouraging responses have been received.

Mr. Donald Tsang, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), showed appreciation for our awareness about protecting the environment and said he has asked the Environment Bureau to reply to us as soon as possible.

The Hong Kong Fire Services Department replied that they would pass the message on to their members, canteen supervisors and catering operators and encourage them to reduce meat eating. They also reassured us that the Department was committed to supporting environmental protection and sustainable development of the world. The Department added that they were dedicated to working together to save the planet and also wished our mission great success.

Asia City Magazine thanked us for our information and said they would see what they could do to help spread it through their editorial department.

The American International Group (AIG) extended its support by offering funding assistance to this activity through their AIA Foundation in Hong Kong, which supports worthwhile charitable causes focusing on community service, education programs and health care services.

Most of the governmental bureaus that received the flyers thanked and made note of their message. One senior executive of a school praised the flyers, saying that they were well designed and produced, and that the layout and colors were great. He hoped that their message would be spread around the globe and that there would be a joint effort to preserve our lovely Earth.
