With Master’s infinite blessings and the working staff’s perseverance, The Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association has achieved considerable success in its well-drilling projects in Kenya. Two of the wells now provide a vital water supply to several thousand villagers of Kangundo and Masai in west Kenya. A third well, completed in September, serves more than 6,000 local people and prison inmates.

Sincere Efforts Pay Off

In April, following Master’s instruction, fellow initiates traveled to Kenya, where they contracted with local well-drilling companies to help resolve the water shortage (see related report in News Magazine #169). In giving top priority to convenient water access for local villagers, a location close to Kanguando was chosen, but the project was not successful.

A new site was selected in a valley further away from the town. The well-drilling company estimated from experience that the project would require at least two months’ time. However, with Master’s love and blessings, the efforts of the brother heading the project and the contracted company’s working staff, water was tapped at 108 meters (355 feet) underground in a shorter time than previously estimated. The completed well was opened for use on July 31, Golden Year 3 (2006), and brought relief to drought conditions in the mountain village of Kanguando.

Immediately after the well was completed, the villagers held inaugural celebrations. A fellow initiate officially presented the pump-room key to a Kanguando representative in the presence of the village chief, the water conservancy official and other villagers. They gathered around the well, singing folk songs and clapping to the beat. The singing was accompanied by the rumbling sound of the water pump. A mango tree was planted and was the first plant watered by water from the well. Adults and children alike scooped up the crystal-clear water from the well and drank from their hands.

A village representative expressed thanks and gratitude on behalf of his people. Local women sang with wholehearted thanks to Master. The celebrations were held in a happy atmosphere of appreciation.

Villagers, who were Christian, sat around the pump room and prayed with their eyes closed. After that, the representative accepted the key.  This marked the occasion when 4,000 villagers received the loving gift of water from Master and put an end to their water shortage.

A Promising Future for Masai

In early June, before the first well was completed, a fellow initiate visited the Korrompoi Primary School at the mountain village of Masai to have a look. It was located in a vastly barren area that had no vegetation and was also scarce in material and water resources.

The Masai are a minority people in Kenya who have preserved their ancient traditions to this day. Most continue to dress in traditional costumes and lead reclusive lives. Their great resilience allows them to adapt to the natural environment. “Water shortage often causes conflicts among minority groups,” said a female staff member of the local school. “We should welcome you with a clean environment and clean windows, but we do not have water to clean up. We are sorry that there is dust everywhere.” The 700 local students and 2,000 Masai villagers placed their hopes for the water in the visit of The Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association members.

Well-drilling began on the school premises in early June. Despite difficulties, success came with God’s love and blessings. Two months later, several hundred of the Korrompoi school students sang in unison, “We Are So Happy!” and “We Give You Our Hearts!” These sounds of joyful harmony reverberated in thankful expression to Master’s unconditional love that made this precious water source possible.

Local officials, villagers dressed in traditional clothes, the school faculty and hundreds of students join in the inaugural celebrations for the well.

Teachers and students, officials and other villagers gathered together. “From now on, we do not have to worry about water shortage!” exclaimed the children. Masai officials said that they would draw up excellent plans to ensure good use of the water resource. They planned to sow grains, vegetables and other crop seeds near the school and to become self-sufficient. They even hoped to plant trees to beautify the environment. The Masai sincerely wished to welcome members of the International Association to a lush green environment on their next visit. Also, they requested that fellow initiates convey their greatest respect and appreciation to Master, as the children sang, “We Give You Our Hearts!”

A Well of Collective Love

When the first two wells were under construction, news came that Nakuru prison inmates were also in urgent need of water. Upon hearing the news, our compassionate Master immediately promised to dig a third well for them. Master’s loving response attracted the attention of the Kenyan Vice President that led to financial support from both the local and central governments. With collective love, the well was completed in September.

For five months, the brother coordinating the well-drilling projects has worked hard for the local people’s water needs in Kenya. He expressed from the bottom of his heart, “With God within, there are no fears of hardship.”

Bringing God’s Ongoing Blessings
to Kenya

In response to a water scarcity in various communities throughout Kenya, Master lovingly instructed local practitioners to organize the drilling of boreholes in this country, thus providing water to needy local inhabitants. After the first two well-digging projects were completed, a third well was drilled at a prison in Nakuru area, two hours drive from Nairobi.

Mr. Ogeto Ngare explains to journalists about the vice president’s absence and that The Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association had contributed to the building of the well.

On September 12, Golden Year 3 (2006), Kenya’s Vice President and Minister of Home Affairs, Hon. Dr. A.A. Moody Awori, EGH, EBS, MP, was scheduled to commission the water opening ceremony at Nakuru Prison. However, on that day, he was unable to attend as he had to take an unexpected and urgent trip to another country. Also, he did not want to send a minister or representative on his behalf, as he wished to personally commission the official ceremony upon his return to Kenya.

Since all the honorary guests were already present, an unofficial ceremony was conducted in the vice president’s absence. Guests included Mrs. Jemima Gichungu and Mr. S.M.F.Karioki, Executive Director and Chairman of the Prisoner’s Care Program; Cirale Murimi, Assistant Commissioner of Prisons and Deputy Provincial Commander; Ogeto Ngare, Assistant Commissioner of Prisons and Officer in Charge of Nakuru Maximum Security Prison; Mr. Donald K. Gichane, Operations Manager of Living Water International; borehole drillers; school children; members of the press from The Standard and The Nation, the country’s leading newspapers; and members of The Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association.

Gichane, Operations Manager of Living Water International; Mr. S.M.F. Karioki, Chairman of the Prisoner’s Care Program

Guests were led to the well-drilling site where a huge borehole drilling rig was situated. There, the Operations Manager of Living Water opened a tap, and clean water gushed forth. Nearby school children were invited to come up and wash their hands underneath this flowing water. The laughter and happiness of the children playing in the water touched everyone’s hearts. All present were also deeply moved when the Operations Manager of Living Water gave a short speech of thanks to Supreme Master Ching Hai for Her love and contribution of this well that will provide water to more than 6,000 people in the area, as well as the many inmates at Nakuru Prison who previously had no access to clean water.

The guests were then escorted into the prison quarters to greet the inmates where a prisoner’s representative spoke of the need for water and the unpleasant situation the prisoners had faced without clean water, as he also gave thanks to Master for Her love and concern. Afterward, this gentleman was given a sample booklet and a few Alternative Living flyers to share amongst the interested prisoners. The president of Living Water and an Association member also spoke briefly with some special words to remind the inmates that even though they may be in prison, they are not forgotten and are very much loved.
Inmates receive the reminder that their need is not forgotten and that God loves everyone equally.

The guests were then treated to a buffet lunch at the Waterbuck Hotel in Nakuru town. Many guests were surprised to find out that The Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association members are all pure vegetarians. Some said that they would like to try to adopt a vegetarian diet, as this would be better for their health. The officer in charge of Nakuru Prison even expressed the desire to learn meditation.

Upon the completion of the day’s events and during the drive back to Nairobi, God-sent rains showered from above, providing even more blessings to the local inhabitants.
