For the past few months, fellow initiates in Gunma have persistently distributed the Alternative Living flyers, covering places such as prisons, hospitals, high schools, firework festivals, and residential areas. Not long ago when an unprecedented torrential rain struck the Japanese islands, we covered ourselves with rain gear, and climbed up the mountains to continue delivering the flyers to residential houses scattered on the slopes.

Meanwhile, the Gunma Center launched a telephone campaign. We called food suppliers, supermarkets, restaurants, recreational parks, airports, airline companies, etc., and explained to them the importance of vegetarianism. We also requested them to improve their services in various areas, such as listing the ingredients in details, considering the necessity of vegetarians, new product development, expanding the sales network of vegetarian commodities, and so on. We even requested the government agencies to improve the labeling of food ingredients, and to demand food suppliers to make relevant information available to the public. For supermarkets, in addition to telephone contacts, we also dropped letters in their suggestion boxes asking them to sell vegetarian food. After three months of continuing efforts, our actions have generated many responses and caused substantive changes.

The biggest recreational center in Japan was the first to offer countermeasures to our suggestions. They conducted a comprehensive survey of the menus of all restaurants in the recreational center, and informed us of availability and scope of vegetarian food with a clearly supportive attitude. In the past, vegetarians and those who were on special diets were often hesitant to dine there. The situation has improved.

A supermarket chain which ranked second in Japan sincerely reviewed their policy of selling vegetarian food, and negotiated with food suppliers based on information provided by fellow initiates. Further, other major supermarkets also started selling vegetarian items recommended by fellow initiates. Many of their sales managers, deputy sales managers, and food supervisors called us and said, “We definitely will review this issue!” “We know little about vegetarianism. Please give us more advice.” The big restaurants also replied, “The vegetarian diet has become very common and we definitely will put it into consideration from now on.”

We also called many food suppliers and expressed hope that they would list out detailed ingredients of their products and develop new vegetarian items. On the other hand, we also appraise and thank those companies that had already provided vegetarian choices. These companies gave us lots of feedback, expressing their compassion towards vegetarianism and their desire to know more about the vegetarian diet.

Ever since we started distributing the Alternative Living flyers, we have noticed an ongoing change of people’s consciousness and also the way that businesses are run. Many outstanding business enterprises are keen to become forerunners of considerate and customer-responsive enterprises. As such, they always listen to the voice of the general consumers. Therefore, if many people voice the same opinion, the effect will be tremendous. When many supermarkets sell vegetarian products, major food suppliers will then produce the vegetarian food. Subsequently, consumers will realize that vegetarianism is a common practice. Thus, a positive energy cycle is formed. Especially, the non-vegetarian family members of fellow initiates will feel that keeping a vegetarian diet is very convenient. Even children who are not used to vegetarian food will be attracted and say, “I want to become a vegetarian!”

Recently, from the supermarkets around the Gunma Center, an invisible wave is rippling towards the whole country of Japan. Even supermarket staffs are keeping a close watch on this inconceivable trend of vegetarianism. This ripple is generated by Master’s almighty love. It is the love from God, which nourishes eternal life, is working and bestows upon us faith, power and guidance.
