Spiritual Interludes

Spiritual Practice
and Sainthood for All

By Silent Wind (Originally in Chinese)

I recently had the honorable opportunity to work with young members of the Quan Yin family who were in high school or college. They are very different from the “strawberry generation” - a generic term used to describe the young people of Formosa today who have been pampered since childhood, fall apart in the face of hardship and care only for their outer appearance, material comfort and sensual pleasure. I observed that these young people work diligently, attentively and joyfully. Moreover, they work harder and learn faster than we did at their age; and they radiate good vibrations. While intellectual people tend to be complicated, our Quan Yin youth are smart and pure. It was a great pleasure to work with them. Later, I realized that they have been observing a vegetarian diet and meditating since childhood.

This is just as Master said, “If our children are trained from childhood with this kind of pure discipline and logical, ethical conduct, then they know, because their souls at that time are still very pure. Maybe we don’t get 100 percent who become good. Maybe out of 100 children, we get only about 50 who become good. But that’s already very good! Or 60 percent, 70 percent of them become good. Thirty percent of them may be bad, but they cannot be 100 percent bad. Maybe they are not as good as the other 60 percent or 70 percent, but they minimize their violent tempers. They minimize the inner urge to do bad things in society. They will be affected. So it is very, very useful, this kind of teaching. Because most of our children in different Centers have become good. That’s what they told me. That’s the feedback that I heard.”

I still remember how Master frequently scolded me in the early days of Her time in Formosa. I knew that it was part of Master’s loving instruction, yet I could not help complaining or failing to overcome my bad habits. Even now, I am still unable to do jobs well to the standard that Master has taught me with Her painstaking efforts. Fortunately, with Master’s continuous guidance of boundless love and patience, our world is blessed with a new generation whose hearts are filled with love and dedication. The 21st Century will hopefully be a glorious era, as Master said, “with every family devoted to spiritual practice and each person a saintly person. It will require the effort of all of you to accomplish this goal.” *
