Sharing Love for Disaster Victims

in Different Corners of the World

<Sydney>On Sunday, September 12, 1999, The Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association's Sydney Center held a vegetarian food expo at Cabramatta High School to raise funds for the relief of earthquake victims in Turkey.

This project was overwhelmingly supported by local fellow initiates and their friends. Besides purchasing vegetarian food, many initiates also contributed money to a relief fund. A large portion of the income from this activity was transferred to the International Red Cross to help in the relief of Turkish earthquake victims. The remaining money was sent to a charitable organization helping war victims in East Timor.

In addition, on Saturday September 11, 1999, the Sydney Center responded to the invitation of the City Council of Fairfield, an area populated predominantly by Asian immigrants, to participate in the City's Multi-Cultural Expo. Sydney initiates set up a vegetarian food booth to help in fund raising for a local hospital. This expo was held in the complex of Fairfeld Hospital and was attended by large crowds of local residents. The Sydney Center made its presence felt by setting up two booths, one for the display of Master's books, audio- and videotaped lectures, and News magazines in English, Chinese, and Aulacese. The other adjacent booth was dedicated to introducing to the public a variety of vegetarian delicacies that were not only tasty, but also healthy for the body. Many people from all walks of life visited our booth to explore the books on display and enjoy the tasty, healthy and exotic vegetarian foods being offered. A majority commended our loving and compassionate Master's charitable activities and public lectures, for which She has arduously traveled around the world in the cause of enhancing humankind's well being.

This was not the first time the Sydney Center of The Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association had held a fund raising activity for Fairfeld Hospital. Last year, the Sydney Center also offered a moderate contribution to the welfare fund of the hospital in response to an appeal from the City Council. All proceeds collected from this fund raising event were sent to the hospital for its own use, as was done last year.

On October 17, 1999, the Sydney Center again held a vegetarian food expo at Cabramatta High School to raise funds for the relief of earthquake victims in Formosa and Mexico. Besides the above, a monetary contribution of $2,000AUD from fellow initiates was also made to Kosovo war victims through the Red Cross on April 21, 1999.
