On August 15, Golden Year 6 (2009), initiates from our New York Center were honored to present Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) volunteers Mark Bernstein and Michael Denmark with a generous contribution of US$10,000 from Supreme Master Ching Hai. Mr. Bernstein and Mr. Denmark coordinate events that inform the public about type 1 diabetes and raise funds for research to find a cure.

“Each year, approximately 30,000 Americans are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes; over 15,000 are children. That's 35 children every day, approximately one child per hour.” (www.jdrf.org) Because diabetes is so prevalent in the US, Mr. Bernstein stresses the importance of regular checkups for the disease.

During an interview for Supreme Master TV, Mr. Bernstein and Mr. Denmark thanked Supreme Master Ching Hai and discussed upcoming events such as the Walk to Cure Diabetes held across the US to raise funds and spread the word about type 1 diabetes. The Foundation also supports research efforts such as The Pancreas Project. The JDRF Artificial Pancreas is a transplant that regulates insulin in the body without the need for daily injections or the use of a pump.

May God bless the JDRF in their efforts to cure diabetes and may all people choose the wholesome plant-based diet in order to enjoy good health and lasting happiness.
