Letter of Appreciation

Honoring William Dennis Weaver - Famous Actor, Environmentalist and Vegetarian

By USA News Group (Originally in English)

William Dennis Weaver (1924-2006) was a popular Emmy-award winning American actor and environmentalist. He played in several well-received movies and television series. He was also a strong advocate for protecting the Earth. In 1993, he founded the Institute of Ecolonomics (IOE), a non-profit organization devoted to research for environmental improvement through ecological and economical technologies. He also co-founded Love Is Feeding Everyone (LIFE), a 16-year-old organization which assisted in providing food for the homeless in the Los Angeles, California, area. In 1986, he received the Presidential End Hunger Award from President Ronald Reagan.

Mr. Weaver was also a committed vegetarian for almost 50 years of his life. He said, “Love them, cherish them, and be good to them. Animals provide unconditional love... they deserve yours.” “There will come a time.… when civilized people will look back in horror on our generation and the ones that preceded it: the idea that we should eat other living things running around on four legs, that we should raise them just for the purpose of killing them! The people of the future will say ‘meat-eaters!’ in disgust and regard us in the same way we regard cannibals and cannibalism.”
