China
Master Brings Timely Storm Relief
Report compiled by fellow initiates in China (Originally in Chinese)

From May to July this year, rare torrential rains swept across many regions of China, causing numerous disasters. Very much concerned about the people, our compassionate Master allocated financial relief and instructed fellow initiates to promptly respond to the needs of the victims..

Shandong Province

From May 9 to May 11, parts of Shandong Province were hit by heavy downpours and severe floods occurred in Huiwen County of Binzhou City. After surveying the situation, fellow initiates purchased and distributed 200 bags of flour and 50 cans of peanut oil, together with some monetary relief, to affected households. The village chief enthusiastically helped organize the effort and the villagers were very happy and grateful for the assistance.

Guizhou Province

On May 16 and 17, torrential rain came down on Pingtang County of Guizhou Province, triggering landslides and causing casualties in Pinghu Town. We purchased blankets and soybean powder, which we distributed to those in urgent need during the Dragon Boat Festival on May 28. We also played “The China Study” DVD to give the people a greater understanding of how a vegan diet can positively impact their health and environment.

Sichuan Province

Towards the end of June, continuous downpours set off landslides that affected the livelihood of 25 farming households in Fuping Township, Liangping County, Chongqing City. We purchased supplies of blankets, oil, mosquito repellent, plastic sheets, towels and laundry powder. With assistance from the local Civil Affairs Bureau and the Township Office, the emergency relief materials and financial aid were distributed on July 8. “I will emulate your actions in the future, and educate my family and the villagers that they must treat each other with love,” said a grateful government official.

Extremely heavy rains on July 11 caused severe floods in Fangui Township, Yihan County, Dazhou City. Many houses were destroyed and farmlands were submerged. We promptly purchased blankets, laundry powder, towels, rice, noodles and vegetables, and delivered them to Fangui Secondary School where people were offered temporary shelter. Monetary relief was also distributed to 17 heavily affected households. Every person received an Alternative Living flyer to help them realize livestock farming is the true cause behind all the frequent disasters and encourage them to quickly adopt the compassionate meat-free lifestyle.

Jiangxi Province

On July 10, a team of Jiangxi initiates, blessed with Master’s love, traveled to three villages in Dayu County—Dongshan in Nanan Town, Changjiang in Chijiang Town, and Zhouwu in Xincheng Town, to provide relief assistance to villagers forced into dire conditions by severe rain. In addition to distributing heatstroke prevention kits, beverages and Alternative Living flyers to all local residents, we also presented financial aid to needy households.

Hunan Province

From June 28 to July 2, floods swept through Zhangjiajie, Huaihua and Loudi, causing mountain torrents and landslides, immersing farmlands and toppling houses in some areas. On July 7, we distributed rice and financial contributions to people in Zhangjaijie’s Cili County and Huaihua’s Mayang Miao Autonomous County whose houses were destroyed or severely damaged.

On June 9, the whole County of Suining was hit by torrential rain that triggered disastrous mountain torrents. On July 19, we distributed 3,240kg of rice purchased from the county rice mill. The following day, with the help of civil administration officials, we handed out more than 15,000kg of rice and 1,190kg of noodles to people in Egongling Tong and Miaozu Township.

Helping Hail Storm Victims in Anhui Province
By fellow initiates in China (Originally in Chinese)

Commencing June 3, 2009, 63 counties and districts in 15 cities in Anhui Province, including Suzhou, Haozhou, Huaibei, Anqing, were hit by hail-storms. Initial figures showed 4.82 million people were affected. Our compassionate Master immediately instructed fellow initiates to render relief.

On June 14, initiates arrived at the severely stricken township of Licang, in Mengcheng County. They provided relief supplies of rice, rapeseed oil, green beans and rock sugar. Licang’s Mayor who is also the town’s party committee secretary, and the County Civil Affairs Bureau Chief welcomed them warmly and presented a banner of commendation on behalf of the local inhabitants. With the help of county officials, the relief materials reached 140 local households and 50 people at Licang Elderly Home with extra financial assistance going to four severely affected families.

That afternoon, Mengcheng County was again hit by thunderstorms, strong winds and hail, causing casualties and heavy damages. On June 18, initiates again purchased rice, rapeseed oil, wheat flour and also schoolbags, rendering relief in Tancheng Town. Assisted by local officials, they distributed the materials to about 200 households and visited 20 badly hit families giving them relief supplies and cash. Later, they gave out beautiful schoolbags to students at Central Primary School, who were overjoyed and saluted them. It was a touching scene. It is our hope that everyone will adopt the compassionate animal-free lifestyle to counter the negative effects of global warming.
