The Aulacese edition of The Birds in My Life was released in conjunction with the “Stop Global Warming: Act Now” conference organized by The Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association. The conference was held at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) on the outskirts of Bangkok in Pathumthani, Thailand on October 11, Golden Year 5 (2008). The conference was followed by a splendid evening gathering for the much anticipated book launch.

After a welcoming traditional Thai dance called Kritdaphinihan (Prosperous Thailand) and a video excerpt from Supreme Master Television on the impact of global warming, the seminar began with speeches by distinguished representatives from AIT, the United Nations, and a Thai Parliamentarian who was a former NASA scientist.

The first keynote speaker, Professor Sudip Rakshit, Vice President of AIT, shared research results about the causes of global warming and also remedies such as tree planting and sustainable energy. He called upon people to take immediate action to turn the threat into an opportunity for the future, saying, “I believe every inhabitant of earth must join in to save the world and themselves.” Then, Mr. Jacob Kurian from the UN spoke of natural disasters caused by global warming and recommended solutions. He emphasized the vegetarian diet, which helps immensely in reducing emissions, and suggested that everyone should change his or her diet. The last notable speaker was Dr. Art-ong Jumsai Na Ayudhya, a former NASA scientist, Thai parliamentarian and founder of the Sathya-Sai school, where all teachers and students are served vegetarian food. He presented facts to show that the vegetarian diet makes people live longer and have fewer diseases; only a 10% reduction of meat consumption in the world could feed 60 million people; and if the whole world turned vegetarian, there would be no more hunger. A vegetarian himself, he also said that vegetarianism helps children develop love for animals.

A video was presented featuring Supreme Master Ching Hai’s biography and Her leading role in the search for solutions to global warming. No sooner had Master’s video images appeared on the screen than a phone call came from the special guest of honor, Supreme Master Ching Hai. She graciously provided time to answer questions from the attending dignitaries, many of whom were from the journalistic, medical and academic community background, and from private and public companies and government. Our compassionate Master emphasized that the most effective approach was to turn to a vegetarian diet. Her love and special concern about the theme “stop global warming” strongly impacted the consciousness of everyone in attendance.

After the conference some of our guests told us that they would change to be vegetarian, some curiously asked about Master’s QuanYin Method of meditation and some wanted to find more information about how the vegetarian diet related to global warming. National Channel, Thailand’s major national television channel and Daily News, a widely read newspaper in Thailand, reported on the conference and the important message of vegetarianism to stop global warming.

The conference was followed by a feast of tasty and nutritious vegetarian delicacies prepared by brothers and sisters from the United States and Âu Lạc.

Later in the evening, over 600 guests and initiates gathered for the release of the Aulacese edition of The Birds in My Life. A new stage with a background of wildlife in beautiful natural settings led guests into a realm of peace and harmony. The special guests from Âu Lạc included Thái An, a member of the executive committee of the HCM City Musical and Theatrical Art Chapter; Đặng Lê Hưng from Hải Pḥng, president of Nam Hoa Company; Thanh Kim Huệ, a meritorious philanthropist and an artist of Southern Aulacese traditional opera; Thanh Điền, an artist of traditional opera and a philanthropist; Trần Văn Nhâm from Kiên Giang province, who teaches children free of charge in his hometown; Đinh Trần Vũ An, an inventor of an effective and affordable water treatment system; Thân Thế Hào, a scientist who has seven patents for inventing water-treatment and environment-related technology; Dr. Đặng Cát from Hà Nội, who has given free treatment to hundreds of poor patients; and Nguyễn Thị Ngọc Ẩn, Ph.D., Dean of Environmental Science of Hồng Bàng University.

A video presentation of The Birds in My Life was shown, revealing insights about the loving birds who are shown enjoying fairytale moments by Supreme Master Ching Hai’s side. Deeply touched, musician Thái An said, “Supreme Master Ching Hai revealed that these lovely birds are indeed noble beings from Heaven. They came here to befriend us, to bless our world through their existence.” Mr. Đặng Lê Hưng of Nam Hoa Company also shared his impressions, “Thank you for providing me a fresh insight into all nature around me.” Artist Thanh Kim Huệ found empathy between herself and The Birds in My Life when she felt the noble love pervading the book. She said, “I hope that this love can be practically realized through our daily activities; that is, we should stop killing all living beings, change our eating habits and stop using food made with animal-based ingredients.”

The most anticipated guest at the book release event was Supreme Master Ching Hai, whose appearance on the big screen was met with thunderous applause. Elegant and dazzling, Master happily answered questions from the guests and initiates. Artist Thanh Điền was deeply moved by Master’s response to his question, “I love those animals just like I love myself.” In response to a question by Professor Nguyễn Thị Ngọc Ẩn, Master emphasized that animals have emotions like we do, and they evoke the compassionate love within us by their unconditional love so we should not harm them. This will build up merits for our planet, which consequently will help reduce global warming and protect the Earth.

To teacher Trần Văn Nhâm, Master said, “Thank you for teaching poor children free of charge. God and Buddha will continue to bless you for that noble work.” Master shed tears when she thanked Dr. Đặng Cát, saying, “There are many suffering people in this world and you are one of the Saints that saves them.” In response to a question from scientist Thân Thế Hào, Master said that if we raise animals with our love and take good care of them, there will be no more pandemic flu.

When Master’s birds learned that The Birds in My Life had become a global bestseller, Master said that they were very happy to have contributed their efforts in saving the planet!

During the event, the ingenious Đinh Trần Vũ An, whose water-treatment and environment-related invention will bring practical assistance to humankind, was presented with the Shining World Inventor Award. Then, initiates from Âu Lạc gave breath-taking entertainment performances for Master and the audience.

Master concluded the book release of The Birds in My Life with words of appreciation for the unconditional love and dedication shown in its making, so that the world can understand that animals are our good friends.
