Viltjouren - Home to Injured and Abandoned Animals
By Angelholm News Group, Sweden (Originally in Swedish)

Mrs. Ewa Kierkegaard owns a place called Viltjouren in Ekerö, outside Stockholm, Sweden, where she has been voluntarily taking care of animals for the last 12 years.

The vibrant 65-year-old is a full-time teacher and spends her spare time caring for abandoned animals or injured wildlife. People either report to Mrs. Kierkegaard if they see any injured animals or they bring them to her place. The animals are fed and cared for until they have fully recovered; then she frees them into their natural environment.

Inside her house and in the garden, one will find hedgehogs, exotic toads, chickens, ducks, geese and roe deer. And in the nursing cages, there are squirrels, peacocks and many other wild animals.

Other people also volunteer their time to help with animal rehabilitation. The local veterinarian assists by treating animals free of charge. Mrs. Kierkegaard only needs to pay for the medical cost.

Viltjouren ultimately aims to reunite the injured and abandoned animals with their natural habitat. Mrs. Kierkegaard has always loved animals and is honored by their friendship and trust.
