Witnessing Cute Little Baby Turtles
Swim Back to the Sea

By Bali News Group (Originally in Indonesian)

Every year, between April and September, many endangered female turtles migrate to Perancak beach in Jembrana Bali County, where it is safe to lay their eggs. An organization called Kurma Asih (Love Turtle) Group protects and preserves the eggs until incubation. The newly born baby turtles are kept in a temporary shelter until foster parents, who will support and love these baby turtles, come to release them to the sea.

This thoughtful group of people is actually ex-turtle hunters who quit their job for the noble cause of saving them instead. Touched by their action, fellow initiates made a financial contribution to support their activity as well as teaching children to know and love the turtle.

On June 13th, Golden Year 4 (2007), initiates from The Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association’s Indonesia Center adopted 42 nests from this group, the highest number to be adopted in the past 10 years. They commented, “Before we released them into the open sea, all the brothers and sisters prayed that those baby turtles would be free of any danger and grow up to be big and strong. We watched those cute little baby turtles slowly being pulled by the sea waves, swinging their hands as if expressing their deepest gratitude toward all their new foster parents.” We said, “Goodbye, little brothers and sisters, happy fighting! Be strong and may Master bless you.”

After the releasing ceremony, fellow practitioners distributed Master’s sample booklets to members of the Kurma Asih Group and the local people. They all read the book carefully while wholeheartedly enjoying the vegetarian meal we had prepared. The Kurma Asih management said, “We feel very much helped by Supreme Master Ching Hai. Please deliver our abundant gratitude to Her. If possible, we would also like the sweet relations to continue, so we can always be connected with Her.” A senior member of the group even asked for another set of Master’s books in order to share with more local friends.

Before leaving, we picked up all the garbage in the area. On the way home, we were still touched by the wonderful feeling of releasing those baby turtles into the open sea. Thank You Master for Your blessing. We hope that this small gesture will bring benefit to the universe.
