The Goose Whisperer Martin Hof

USA News Group (originally in English)

23-year-old geese specialist Martin Hof is hired by the Amsterdam’s public health agency to work in parks in Delft, West Central Netherlands. His job is to solve the clashes of over-breed geese with humans.

Because of his ability to communicate with geese, he is known as “The Goose Whisperer.” He told the Associated Press that geese are very smart, not “silly geese” as people call them.

To solve the over-population of geese in the parks, Hof finds them new homes and divides them along family lines to reduce the trauma of the move. This is a much better option than killing them. Geese are generally monogamous and a pair may live together for 40 years! Partners that are suddenly split may never recover from the shock and may literally die of loneliness.

Hof not only can calm geese by talking with them but also can identify geese families at a glance. He works with people by discouraging them from feeding the birds in the parks and also educates city workers on preventing the birds from over breeding in the first place.
