The Sentient World of Animals

Animals Honor the Master Power

We live in a small village on Vancouver Island, Canada where deer wander through the streets as free spirits. After all, this was their land before humans inhabited it! Humans and deer live together in harmony. Cars will slow down as these lovely creatures cross the road.

The homes in our village usually have grassy areas in the front and back yards. And the villagers are proud of their vegetable and flower gardens and carefully tend them to continually beautify the environment.

Deer have a great fondness for eating many plants in the gardens. People even take classes to find the best plants that are deer resistant! One of the favorite meals of the deer is the tulip, seen in the photos on this page. When protected by high fences from the deer, gardens of tulips in an assortment of rainbow colors are truly stunningly beautiful.

Our home is on a quiet street in this village of Brentwood Bay. And every spring, dozens of tulips grow in our front yard to grace and beautify the neighborhood. All of our neighbors have tried to grow tulips and the deer very quickly eat them for breakfast, lunch or dinner! Our neighbor across the road came over one day to ask, “How come you are the only people who can grow tulips? How come the deer don’t eat your tulips?” People from the community stop by to admire our garden. They all seem amazed because there are no other open unfenced gardens for many blocks or kilometers around our home where the deer allow the tulips to grow.

One evening another neighbor, Kathryn joined us for a special event at the world famous Butchart Gardens, just down the road from our home. As we walked throughout the gardens, she pointed to many varieties of flowers and each time exclaimed “I tried to grow those flowers but the deer ate them.” Suddenly, she stopped walking and asked me a question. “Wait a minute”, she said, “how come the deer don’t eat any of your flowers?”

We explained to her that there were probably several reasons for it. First of all we mentioned that we are vegetarians and since the animals know that we won’t hurt them, they don’t hurt us. Secondly, we advised her that our home is a meditation center. While there are just two initiates meditating (my husband and I), we get frequent visitors who come to help us deliver seminars and who meditate with us. The vibrational frequency of our home and our yard has been raised by the meditation practice and the deer must sense the love pouring out from the property.

Kathryn, satisfied with our explanation, declared, “Well, I think I could become a vegetarian because I love tofu!”

What I didn’t tell Kathryn is that discretely hanging from one of the bushes at the front of the driveway is a noble picture of Supreme Master Ching Hai. I had originally hung it there to protect our home. I have often wondered if the deer can feel the beautiful energy from Her picture and therefore are respectful of everything around Her, including the tulips!

This story provides us with a simple demonstration of the power of meditation and how the Master power creates a beautiful energy field around us. I am grateful to the deer for their loving kindness in letting me grow the most spectacular tulips! I am also grateful to Master for showing our neighbors the power of being a vegetarian and a practitioner of the Quan Yin Method.
