Kang Jun-man, a professor of the department of mass communication at Chonbuk National University, launched a local online newspaper (http://www.sunshinenews.co.kr ) on July 7, Golden Year 4 (2007), which reports only positive news. With the voluntary contribution of students and lay reporters, Sunshine News aims to find and report only bright news in the local area, just like the name of the paper.

Professor Kang claimed in a launching speech, “Sunshine News that deals with the bright side of society seems scarce, but is it really so? No, it isn't. The value of positive news has been ignored by existing journalism, which is subject to the curiosity and interest of the public. Thus the scarcity of positive news is nothing but a false image.” He also added, “We should reevaluate the value of sunshine news and have more sunshine news reported in order to balance the dark with the bright. It's funny that we avert our eyes from sunshine and complain it's too dark. We can't do without sunshine.”

Thank you Professor Kang and everyone involved for your initiative! We wish you best success. God bless you all.
