Bringing Master's Love and Compassion to Flood Victims

By fellow initiates from China (Originally in Chinese)

From June to July 2007, heavy rainfall triggered floods in several provinces in southern China. An estimated ten million people were affected, with many losing their lives or missing. The agricultural sector suffered colossal losses. In the spirit of empathy, Chinese fellow initiates brought Master's love to the neediest people.

☆Yunyang Area in Eastern Chongqing

After a preliminary study, we found that Yunyang area in eastern Chongqing province was the most devastated. Destruction was greatest in Jianmin village of Shuangjiang town, Weixing village of Nanxi town and Juyuan village of Renhe town, where a series of thunderstorms had caused landslides, destroying and burying many houses. In early July, we arrived in the mountainous Yunyang area to inquire about the practical needs of the disaster victims. After learning that Juyuan was less seriously affected, we focused our relief effort on Shuangjiang and Nanxi.

The next morning, we purchased 800 kg of rice, 250 kg of vegetable oil, 500 kg of dry noodles, and 50 bags of washing detergent. We then rented trucks to transport these supplies, together with another 190 bags of vegetarian food contributed by fellow initiates, to the two disaster areas. Despite the scorching sun, we distributed the relief provisions rich with Master's love to the disaster victims. The beneficiaries were very touched. “You have traveled a long way to make this special trip here to help us. This gives us courage to live on. Thank you very much,” they said.

☆ Longchang County, Sichuan Province

On July 9, a heavy storm swept through Longchang County in Sichuan. It was the most serious rainfall in meteorological record and caused grave flooding.

Fellow practitioners arrived at Longchang County in a short time and immediately carried out relief work in groups early next morning. One group went to the flooded area to investigate; the other stayed in the County to purchase the relief items. Since the whole County was flooded, it took us a great effort to find a supermarket that had sufficient items in stock. When the manager of the supermarket and the wholesale dealer learnt that we were a self organized charity group, they were very touched and gave us water to drink. The manager was even moved to tears. He accompanied us to the destination, the investigation site and to the train station. He said, “Although the amount of your contribution is not very significant, but your spirit is. We should spread this spirit so that everyone can learn from you.”

After purchasing 7,500kg rice, 1,020 rings of dried noodles, 150 buckets of vegetable oil, 4 cases of salt and 2 bags of sugar, we went to the camp for the flood victims. Apart from giving them relief items, we also contributed financially. Touched by the love from fellow initiates, both the Deputy Head and the Director of Finances of the county were in tears.

During the disaster relief process, we heard that many governmental officials, as well as ordinary citizens, devoted themselves to help the victims, despite the hardship. We feel very happy and encouraged. Though we have returned home, our hearts are still with the victims in the devastated area. We pray that Master will bless the affected victims so that they will be comforted in their bodies, hearts and souls.

☆ Northern Anhui Province

Since summer this year, the days of continuous rain caused serious floods around the Huihe River area in northern Anhui Province. Especially in Weijia Village, Fengtai County, a rare flood occurred that submerged houses and fields, leaving the villagers overwhelmed by the situation.

As soon as we heard about the flood, we immediately purchased 3 truck loads of emergency relief items, including clean water, instant noodles, noodles, sautéed dry bean curds, preserved vegetables, toilet paper, soaps, towels, mosquito repellent and ointments for insect bites. Then we transported these items to the affected area nonstop.

The County Deputy and the Village Head warmly welcomed us. They also arranged for villagers to come and claim the relief items. When the village inhabitants found out that we came for the sole purpose of helping them, they were very moved. One of the villagers said emotionally, “What you delivered are exactly what we needed urgently. You are very considerate and even bring us mosquito repellents. You are the best people I have ever come across!” In addition, we also brought them many clean clothes. The villagers were surprised and delighted to receive the clothes. The atmosphere on site was very touching.

Thanks to Master for Her blessings that helped us complete all the relief tasks smoothly and timely.
