Master's Love Rea ches
a Fatal Diseased Area
of Nepal

Report by Kathmandu Center, Nepal (Originally in English)
The thank you letter from the local District Public Health Office in Banke, Nepal.

On November 20, Golden Year 3 (2006), in response to the news of widespread fatal mosquito transmitted diseases (malaria, dengue, etc) in several villages of Banke District, Nepal, several initiates from Kathmandu Center decided to go to that area to help.

We started from Kathmandu at 5 a.m. and reached Nepalganj, the nearest small town to the affected area in the Banke District, by evening. The journey was around 600 kilometers.

Since the affected area was remote and new for us, the following day we went to the District Public Health and Red Cross offices for necessary information. But there were no detailed records of what we needed. From those offices we came to know that, since the people of the affected area are illiterate and there are many villagers, the distribution process can turn into unwanted chaos and quarrelling.

Trusting in Master’s protection and arrangement, we overcame our initial fear of going to this deadly area, as dengue and malaria are easily transmitted by a simple mosquito bite. As the harsh winter was already approaching, we also decided to buy some blankets, as well as the much needed mosquito nets. There was not much available in this small town, so we waiting for them to make what we needed.

On November 25, we hired a tractor and a jeep to carry the goods to Sonbarsa Village. The road was muddy, bumpy and filled with dust. Then we had to cross the two kilometer Rapti River by boat, as there was no bridge. Since there were no built in roads on the other side, another two tractors had to be arranged to go through sandy and wet unstable muddy fields, a deep swamp filled with water and rough bumpy roads. When loading the tractors, one started to sink in the wet mud. Luckily the driver managed to get it out and onto safe land.

Sonbarsa Village had about 300 households. The distribution process was quite hard because of the huge mass of people and language problem. However, with Master’s guidance, we were able to distribute 300 blankets and 500 mosquito nets. We also shared with them Master’s Alternative Living flyers and several copies of sample booklets of “The Key of Immediate Enlightenment.” Some packets of biscuits and chocolates were given to the children. Everything was received eagerly and with great joy. Even though many of them could not read, they were just happy to see Master’s picture on the sample booklet. To our surprise 60 to 70 percent of the villagers are vegetarian.

A daily newspaper printed the relief work of our Association on its front page.

On November 27, a daily newspaper printed the news of our relief work on its front page. The local District Public Health Office in Banke, Nepal also appreciated our efforts and sent a thank you letter to the Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association, Nepal for the relief work.
