The night markets in Tainan region often attract streams of crowds. Our initiates from Tainan Center therefore decided to target night markets in Xinying, Yanshui and Madou for promoting Alternative Living.  Whenever we came to a night market, we would start distributing Alternative Living flyers at every entrance and exit; we also put up posters and played “The Real Heroes” DVD there. Many people would stop by to watch the film and were immediately served by fellow practitioners with home-made biscuits and beverages. As our group was not there for sales promotion but to save the animals and promote the vegetarian diet, people found our stall very special and were deeply moved.

On June 24, Golden Year 3 (2006), at the Xinying night market, after watching “The Real Heroes,” one lady asked a lot of spiritual questions. She said she was a Christian, working as a nurse in a big hospital. Having witnessed the suffering of many patients, she deeply sensed the ephemeral nature of life and started to pray to God every day to find the Truth through a method for spiritual cultivation and at the same time, be able to help alleviate patients’ pain. And here she had come across Master’s film in a night market!

After her questions were replied to by our initiates, she thanked God for answering her prayers, and took many flyers and sample booklets for her patients.  Another person, a high school geography teacher, was touched by the Alternative Living promotion, saying it is a noble deed with multifaceted and far reaching impact, from respecting life, no killing and maintaining good health, to avoiding food waste, helping impoverished countries and further helping world peace. She said she would like to coordinate with us in advocating vegetarianism.

On July 19 at the Yanshui night market, besides distributing the Alternative Living flyers, we also gave out “10 Reasons To Eat More Like a Vegetarian” to some of the people. Many middle school and primary school students were strolling along with their parents, and we pointed out to them that the websites listed on the flyers could provide them with a lot useful information that they could browse through and share with their families. They all happily accepted.

One man who passed by on a motorbike began exclaiming, “Supreme Master Ching Hai!” as soon as he saw Master on the TV screen.  He stopped his bike immediately to inquire about Master.  He said he worked at a nursing center, caring for those who suffered impaired mobility. At the beginning of last year, Tainan Center had visited this nursing center, and one of its inhabitants had longed to follow Master Ching Hai ever since but didn’t know how to contact us. And now he bumped into us in the market! We gave him the sample booklet along with our contact details and promised we would arrange a time to make another visit to the nursing center.

On August 21 at the Madou Night Market, people who walked past our stall were attracted by Master’s words and stopped to watch “The Real Heroes” DVD.  We distributed about 600 Alternative Living fans, pencil pads and file folders.

Sponsored by Tainan City Council, the Tainan International Chihsi Arts Festival was held in Confucius Temple Culture Garden and neighbouring tourist spots from July 21 to July 31.  Tainan Center took this opportunity to conduct three nights of distributing Alternative Living flyers, pencil pads and fans, from July 29 to 31. Since it was extremely hot in the southern part of Formosa in July, many people came to request the fans, with some motorbike riders even turning back to ask for it after passing by.

On the second day of the distribution activity, a rock band was performing on the stage and interacting with the audience. We watched as hundreds of people held Alternative Living fans or pencil pads and followed the music, waving their hands in the air. It was a spectacular scene.  The rock performance lasted for an hour, and the audience waved for the entire hour. We were all very amazed and moved. When one sister was giving out the Alternative Living flyers, a little dog came and faced in the direction where the sister stood; it bowed many times and lingered, obviously not wanting to leave. It amazed whoever saw this. We believe its soul knew that Master is saving all the sentient beings!

Everyone who participated in the Alternative Living promotion activities has felt immense love and blessings from Master. We all feel deeply honored for this opportunity to be God’s ‘postman’ in delivering the Heavenly message.
