Combined Finances Contribute Even More

In an amazing recent announcement to the world, Warren
Buffet, the world’s second richest man, said that he will give
$37 billion of his vast $44 billion fortune to Bill Gates’ charitable
foundation. As the world’s richest man, Bill Gates has created
a foundation with the aim of “fighting disease and promoting
education” in the poorest and most disadvantaged areas of the
world, particularly in Africa (see News #170). Mr. Buffet’s
announcement came shortly after Gates said that he would give up his
role as Chief Software Architect at Microsoft to focus completely
on the goals of his charitable foundation.
When asked why he was giving most of his fortune to the
foundation, Buffet acknowledged his immense respect, stating, “Who
wouldn’t select Tiger Woods to take his place in a high-stakes
golf game? That’s how I feel about this decision with my money.”
Friends since 1991, Mr. Gates and Mr. Buffet know each other
well, so the decision is one based upon knowledge and mutual respect.
Most of all, however, it comes from a deep desire to help the world attain
a state of equality and harmony. This desire is becoming more prevalent
in the world today as the spiritual consciousness of the planet is uplifted
and its inhabitants become less greedy and more selfless. It
is so befitting as we enter the Golden Age, as described by our Master,
that the world’s two wealthiest men are giving most of their money
and time to noble work.

Bill Gates and his wife personally manage their foundation
and travel to different countries in Africa to carry out its mission.
One condition of the gift made by Mr. Buffet is that Mr. Gates or
his wife must be personally involved in the running of the foundation
— another sign of a gift from the heart. The world’s most
successful people are thus turning from personal enrichment towards
acts of love and compassion for all fellow human beings.
