Extending God’s Love to the Helpers
as well as the Homeless in Daegu

By Daegu News Group (Originally in Korean)

Daegu Center initiates provide a meal for homeless people at East Daegu Station during the second week of each month. Last February, when brothers and sisters brought the first provision of food, a free medical check-up was also provided from the Association of Physicians for Humanism. However, the vegetarian meal ran out completely before doctors and other volunteers had the chance to taste it. After hearing this news, compassionate Master reminded the Daegu initiates to prepare a special meal to treat the doctors. Fellow practitioners were pleased and surprised at Master’s delicate love.

On March 24, Golden Year 3 (2006), after the provision of food and the medical check-ups were finished, all the volunteers including doctors, medical students, and officers from the district’s ward office were given a special vegetarian lunch box. Each box was filled with tasty vegetarian treats, which were made of the best ingredients by the Center’s best cook. Hot vegetarian soup was also prepared because of the cold weather. News magazines, sample booklets and Alternative Living flyers were packed with each lunch box. The volunteers who received these vegetarian gifts were surprised at the pretty box wrapped in beautiful paper and the wide variety of vegetarian food as well as its wonderful taste. All were amazed and said that the vegetarian meal was neater, cleaner and more delicious than their usual meals. Moreover, the volunteers were very impressed by Master’s love for them as well as for the homeless people. They expressed their deep gratitude about this.

In a short phone interview with Mr. Gang Jeong-Woo, Secretary of Daegu Chokbang Care Center, he said, “Visitors to the free meal offering include 50% homeless, and another 50% represent old people living alone, disabled, jobless, etc. These are all poor and estranged from society. I appreciate Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association so much for helping these people always.”

In the following months of April and May, fellow practitioners again brought vegetarian meals to the homeless and volunteers at the Daegu Station. The people there said it was so delicious, and someone even sang songs due to joy. When the volunteers saw the initiates, they expressed their thanks for the love and the vegetarian food repeatedly. Through this, initiates experience and learn of Master’s minute care and love for the people. The Daegu practitioners’ sharing of love with the homeless will be continued.
