Seeing God’s Purpose in Everything Fosters Wisdom and Compassion

Spoken by Supreme Master Ching Hai, Stockholm, Sweden,
May 31, 1999 (Originally in English) Videotape #655b

Q: What’s the most important thing in your life? Are you always a happy person?

M: The most important thing in my life I already have; namely, God’s knowledge. And the second most important thing is just doing what Hes wants me to do, which is to run around and tell you that you’re God.

Yes, I’m mostly happy, but sometimes I’m unhappy if I see other people suffering and being unhappy, calling for help when they’re in pain or in trouble. At such times, I’m unhappy myself. But there’s always a true tranquility within me despite any outer unhappiness caused by the circumstances of the world. This means that my emotions and my heart might feel touched and my mind might be troubled, but my soul, my wisdom definitely knows that there’s a purpose to everything that happens in this world, and that all of God’s arrangements are perfect.

People suffer because they don’t see the true purpose behind events, whether pleasant or unpleasant. I suffer because I see them suffer, and I feel sorry for the suffering that they have to go through because they should know better but they don’t. Once we see the Truth with our own wisdom, we’ll no longer suffer when things happen to us. But we might suffer if someone else suffers. That’s how Jesus remained so loving in the most painful moments of his physical life.

Know the Inner Self and Be Free as the Wind

Spoken by Supreme Master Ching Hai, Stockholm, Sweden,

Q: Why can’t I be what I want to be? How can I do that - be what I want to be?

M: Who’s forbidding you? Only yourself. If you want to be free, you have to know yourself because you are freedom. Know yourself first, and then you can be free as the wind, as the clouds, as God should be. Every restriction on your freedom comes from ignorance of our own Self.
