Saving Humans and Animals by
Encouraging a Merciful Lifestyle

By Laura Chen, San Jose (Originally in Spanish)

[San Jose] In response to Master's loving call to encourage "Alternative Living" and thus save animals' lives and avert the threat of global pandemics, in February 2006 Costa Rican initiates began a flyer distribution effort while making use of a convenient guide booklet that designated specific places in which to work. The practitioners first aimed to cover San Jose city, then looked for other well-populated cities and finally focused their efforts on several rural areas.

The work team used many means of distribution; for example, delivering flyers by hand to people in bus stations, banks, parks, marketplaces and at ATMs, and also to those attending cultural and sporting events. In addition, the initiates placed flyers in cars, mailboxes and shopping malls and on public bulletin boards, and left them in macrobiotic and vegetarian shops, bakeries, pharmacies and other businesses. Besides these methods the team published the flyer in a Chinese-language magazine and gave copies to co-workers and sent them by e-mail to family and friends.

Finally, the sisters and brothers are sending "Alternative Living" posters and leaflets to their fellow initiates in Panama, Honduras and Nicaragua and plan to publish the flyer in several local Costa Rican journals. As they continue to come up with new places and ideas for flyer distribution, the initiates feel delighted to work on the project and thus put Master's teachings into practical action.
