Koxinga Cultural Festival -
A Celebration of Art and Spirituality

[Tainan] On April 27, 2003, the Tainan City Government and the Tainan Art Center, in collaboration with the Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association, held the Koxinga Cultural Festival at the Center's Holiday Plaza. Approximately a thousand participants enjoyed God's divine love at this joyful celebration of art and spirituality, which featured an exhibition of Supreme Master Ching Hai's artistic creations, as well as various instrumental, vocal and dance performances. Distinguished guests included the Director of the Tainan Cultural Bureau, the Director of the Tainan Art Center and more than fifty Formosan celebrities.

The event received widespread advance publicity from local newspapers and television and radio stations, including an exclusive interview with fellow initiates by the local "Voice of Victory" radio station, and an introduction to Master, the Quan Yin Method and Master's art exhibition.

On the day of the event, Chinese artist Dr. Xu Qiao-shen painted a picture of beautiful plum blossoms, which he presented to the Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association as a gift. In addition, Mr. Chen Ji-shan from the Chinese Calligraphy and Seal Engraving Art Society and nine experienced calligraphers from Tainan demonstrated their skills by reproducing Master's aphorisms and several poems from the anthology Wu Tzu. After copying a verse from Wu Tzu, Mr. Chen went on to recite the poem, creating an exquisite aesthetic atmosphere.

Master's artworks, including Celestial Clothes, Longevity Lamps, prints of Her paintings and poetry anthologies, along with Her musical compositions, were displayed in a gallery elegantly decorated with bamboo and orchids. The visitors were fascinated by the exhibit and rejoiced in the Heavenly impressions and vast ocean of love radiating from Master's art. The venue's huge projection screen and numerous television sets continuously showed videos of Master's lectures in countries around the world, and the grand concert - "One World . of peace through music," as well as footage recording Her numerous public-service efforts.

Mr. Xu Geng-xiu, Director of the Tainan Cultural Bureau, and many distinguished guests visited the exhibition, and were very impressed by Master's immense and dynamic creativity, feeling inexhaustible love flowing from Her art works. Amazed by the mature painting skills displayed in Master's pieces, it was hard for participants to imagine that She was never formally trained in art.

In addition to the exhibition, the Festival featured an outdoor performance entitled "Spring Sonata." Performers included famous artists from southern Formosa, Miss Wang Xin-xin from Mainland China, known as "the Queen of Nanyin" (a form of musical story-telling from southern China) and several renowned local multi-cultural performance troupes. Together these artists presented a wide variety of unique, high-quality programs for visitors.

The Tainan Center of the Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association was responsible for planning the event. Motivated by Master's love, local fellow initiates have long explored every corner of the city, putting into action their belief in spiritual cultivation and integration with society in daily life. Tainan initiates have shared Supreme Master Ching Hai's spirit of universal love through activities such as counseling in prisons, environmental protection and artistic projects like the Koxinga Cultural Festival.
