One
day in July, Japanese initiates suddenly received news that we could
go to see Master. We had seen Her in May during Her lecture in Tokyo,
and had not expected to see Her again so soon. Overwhelmed by excitement
and joy, we arrived at Her residence.
It was raining that day, so we built a shelter with transparent vinyl
sheets outside of Her house. While we were meditating quietly, Master
appeared, and greeted us with these words: "Our center here is
among the best in the world, and it is transparent too." Her simple
remark made us laugh cheerfully. Master is always very good at making
everyone relaxed and happy, and very understanding in making each of
us feel loved.
When answering
questions from fellow practitioners, She told us a secret way to attain
freedom. We always expect or demand something from others, thinking
that they should act in a certain way. This is precisely what brings
us frustration. If we have no expectations and are not attached to anything,
then we will be free and relaxed. Master also advised us to talk more
about the merits of others, and to speak about their shortcomings only
occasionally. In this way, we will be able to manage our family well,
handle human relationships properly, and thus encounter fewer obstacles
and experience fewer struggles. Master also elaborated on why it is
necessary to follow Her instructions precisely. Since She is working
for the multitude, if we use our minds to judge or carry out Her words,
we will often make a mess and hinder Her divine task of delivering sentient
beings. So, to benefit the multitude, we must follow Her instructions
by adhering to Her original meaning precisely.
Master spoke in
Her usual humorous manner, and even occasionally used a few Japanese
words, to which the delighted disciples responded with many rounds of
applause. A fellow practitioner asked, "What is love?" To
this, Master spent a long time to give a very detailed answer. "True
love doesn't mean loving the people or things that we love. It means
giving love and comfort to people and animals who need love, making
them feel loved, comfortable, and happy."
Master then cited
an example: Once, a very weak dog wandered into a center in the United
States. Under the care of Master and fellow practitioners, it soon recovered
and became a member of the center. It was very smart and could understand
Master's words. Unfortunately, it was chased away when She was not at
the center. When She later heard about it, She was so upset that She
cried. The dog had placed complete trust in us, yet we chased this already
homeless dog out on to the street. This is not love, She said, adding
that She had no idea where the dog was and whether it had been beaten
by others. Thinking about the miserable fate of the dog, tears of sorrow
rolled down Her cheeks. We were so moved by Master's infinite compassion
towards all sentient beings that tears also fell from our eyes.
When this precious
meeting was over, we bade farewell to Master, Who held a candle in Her
hand while seeing us off from the balcony outside Her room. The scene
was that of a tenderhearted mother sending Her sons and daughters on
their way. All of us were very reluctant to leave! We are extremely
grateful to Master for making this particular trip to Japan. We believe
that, under Master's blessings, Japan will have a brighter and better
future.
